Birthdays are overrated!!!

Birthdays are overrated!

The only thing that comes to my mind when people remind me that my birthday is around the corner. But, thanks to my dear friend Jigal who made it a point that I make a big deal out of it.. so, here I am writing a blog-post to myself about things I have realized from life and people as I celebrate my silver jubilee..
1. Stop being there for friends/people who expect you to be around forever and not move an inch when you are in trouble.
2. Stop settling for friends/ people who make you feel different from yourself. Trust me they are not your friends.
3. Stop doing things you don’t like. Don’t force yourself.
4. Don’t work for other people’s dream.
5. Stop taking your work as a 9 to 5 thing. Be passionate about it. If you can’t find satisfaction in your current job, find a new one.
6. Talk when you are sad. Get things out of your system. Remember, nothing is important than your mental health. If anything is affecting you, it will affect your work.
7. Walk more. Observe things. Smile at strangers.
8. Indulge in healthy discussions. You will come up with points you never thought of.
9. Be a good listener. The world needs more of that.
10. Have patience. Good things take time.
11. Nobody can teach you anything. You pick your own lessons, you decide your philosophy.
12. Always be honest when people ask for your opinion. They will feel bad initially but that's okay.
13. Enjoy your own company.
14. Learn to save money.
15. When nothing goes right, ask for a hug.
16. Help people without any reason.
17. Take care of at least one kid's education and watch them doing well in life.
18. Family comes first.. friends come and go.. relationships go for a toss but family remains the same.
19. Fall in love truly, madly, deeply. Do not cheat.
20. Be someone's 3am friend.
21. Its okay to sleep for 12 hours once in a while.
22. Travel. :P
23. Laugh at yourself.
24. Don't take people for granted.

Zindagi Gulzar hai. Cheers!

First Impression

First Impression...

They say, first impression is everything.. But, no its not. My first impression of this person is Sadu, attitude, rude, doesn't smile, Negative... just because I dont know her.. But there was something about our timing I have to cross her whenever I go to the washroom... 3.5 months and no communication.

Things change...

September 24, it was fitness week in office my boss pushed me to go and get my medical done.. Very few people know that i hate visiting Doctor.. It took me 15 minutes to convince myself.. Finally I entered that room... The nurse check my BP and I was so fucking happy BP was normal for a change ;-) ... They asked me to meet the doctor before leaving. I looked at the people standing there waiting to meet the doctor.. Another 15 mins I said to myself.. Started waiting for my turn.. without realising who is standing next to me. She finally said something and out of everything her first question was "what is your weight?" Fuck my life... seriously! this woman wants to know my weight. 3 seconds later I answered my life changing question...We started chatting and we were so busy discussing Greys anatomy.. It was her turn to meet the consultant when she came out.. She smiled at me and left.. I didn't expect anything after that.. Met the doctor and left the lab and what I saw outside made me happy.. She was waiting for me.. I felt special something I wanted... We started walking towards our departments Just exchanged names before saying bye...

Next day she asked for my number and we realised that we love coffee, traveling, music, wine and the journey started.. so many conversations over coffee..walks... Google hangout...WhatsApp... And most important Instagram....

So ladies and gentlemen here's introducing my bestie Sheetal Srivastava :-)

PS: The songs in her iPod are from my playlist ;)

Believe

Thursday, May 28 2015

I decided to call it a day a little early, boarded 6.16 local (read window seat) brain full of new ideas about an upcoming project, when suddenly a random thought came to my mind...boom!! What do you want in life Rishika Singh? Where are you heading? And the conversation in my head started.. 2 minutes later A dear friend traveling in next compartment calls "get down at Wadala I want you to see this ppt before I show it to my client."

After helping my friend with his stupid airline ppt I boarded 6.51 vashi local while looking for a place to sit I came across a known face and it took me 30 seconds to recognise her.. Anita aunty!! Oh my god!! She was wearing specs and sleeping :-P.. I said hello and we started talking.. I told her everything that was running in my mind from vacation to upcoming projects to idea of starting my own firm... and it was so sweet of her to listen to everything I had to say (really thankful for that) her reply made me think about it all over again... All she said was "Rishika! It's all in your head and your heart, if you really want it... you will make it happen..." which reminded me of King Khan's famous dialogue - agar kisi cheez ko poori shiddat se chaaho to poori kaaynaat usse tumse milaane mei lag jaati hai (I know that was too filmy).

Honestly somebody said these words to me  4 years ago and I laughed but today I could actually feel the magic of new beginnings :) and as they say sometimes, someone says something really small, and it just fits right into this empty place in your heart.. we are so busy earning money that we keep forgetting our dreams, one moment of self doubt and it's over To live life you need to understand the magic of trusting your gut and taking that risk. Thank you Anita aunty for those words, you made me believe in my thoughts and ideas even more.

A Sweet Heartache

Somebody said it right "your life rushes from heaven to hell in a fraction of seconds." Last night when I spoke to a friend after ages he told me about his breakup and how his relationship changed his life. When I was trying to talk to him he interested by asking a simple question, 'Rish! Meri jagah tu hoti to kya karti? And I smiled......

His question made me think about my most cherished and beautiful moments I had some years ago. The phase that made me a better person, helped me to grow and taught me some important lessons. The kind of high it gave me is something I miss every second, it changed my life, made me close to my goal by enhancing my creativity and imagination. I never felt that way before. I felt as if I have everything in life. This is what a relationship does, it makes you happy. You fall in love with yourself. It makes you positive about everything and everyone. You live life as if there is no tomorrow... And then suddenly one day it's all over. You're back to square one. Nothing is same.

Yes, you have all rights to feel bad, frustrated and angry at that person or situation or yourself. You don't know whom to blame for all this, you cry day and night and just want that one person back in your life. You curse yourself because of circumstances. You feel sorry for yourself and that's okay.... It’s human nature. We don't think about other persons situation, we don’t know what is going on in his/her head. Just because there is no communication we don't have any right to judge them, we have to accept that their part is over in our life and they made us a better person. They come into your life as your soulmate, change you for your own good all you need to do is take the good part from those moments and cherish them forever.

And here is something I learnt, that you have to accept people for who they are, learn to give without accepting anything in return and eventually things fall into place sooner or later just be positive.

Honestly speaking even I never thought this could happen to me. But today, I am thankful to god for sending that person in my life, because their presence introduced me to a different world, the world where love is worshiped. And, today here I am without any regrets and with a sweet heartache smiling and living life queen size. J

Traveler by Heart...

मेरा फलसफा कंधे पे मेरा बस्ता... चला मैं चला ले चला  रास्ता....
So according to some close friends these magical words from the song Ilaahi describe me in a perfect manner.. and now I agree.

December 2013,  when I left my job just to travel, I realized how far I've come in past 2yrs from what I was. Back than I was connected to my dreams, the world which I always wanted to create around me, the world that involved lot of things which are not around now.

Last week I spoke to a friend after 2 long years, he is one of those who knows me in an out and he asked me one simple question, what happened to that old Rish I knew? where is she? Is she alive? and I had no answer to this question. Another friend when chatting with me raised the same point but in a polite manner saying I miss Rishika Singh. Now when people call me, their first question is "Kaunse shehar mei hai?" and that makes me think have I changed a lot that people need to ask this question.

Four months I was traveling in search of something, I covered various places of the country, but all questions are still unanswered. There is something I'm looking for and I cant find it. I was looking for myself. I guess traveling changed the philosophy of my life and it made me realized that you cant really plan your life. So here is what it taught me and how it should be, after all change is good.:)

Traveling is like meditation, it changes you from inside, you look at the world from a different perspective. For me traveling is not about going to one particular place its about being somewhere
and doing something which is not a part of your routine, because I'm not a 9 to 5 kinda person.

You meet new people, you become more social, you learn to interact with strangers, you make new friends which is not easy. You improve from every direction. After traveling you feel lot more confident than what you were earlier.

Another important thing it teaches you is that you learn to go with the flow. You stop expecting things, yo stop assuming things and you learn to survive in every situation.

Traveling teaches you to observe things, people around you and that helps a lot in understanding your surrounding, you learn about body language by looking at people, their actions the way they speak will teach u a lot about them.

And the most important thing it teaches you is that you cant work and travel at the same time.

There is another set of people who are close to me and my family have a different opinion altogether, some they are jealous of me because I travel so much and some say how can I travel so much? Well, high time I should start taking all their views with a pinch of salt and learn to live with it and try my best to be in touch with people. :)
After traveling for months I know I have changed and I've changed for good now I dont wait for people, I can let go anything and anyone,  I live life queen size without the King. :)

Friends beyond the virtual world....

Happy time flies fast.....

Its the first thing that comes to my mind when I think how blessed I am to have some handful but precious friends. Friends who are just a phone call away... Friends who are always there for me no matter what...
Friends who will never judge me... Friends who are beyond the rules and regulations of this world...
These are the friends I can count on  when entire world is against me... these are the friend who tell me when I go wrong.
Aarzoo aunty is one  of them... she entered my life when I just came out of my school life...i was just 17 that time. She is one of those friends who always blessed me who always prayed for me, who supported me during  the bad phase of my life... With Aarzoo aunty it was that instant connection.... mutual liking towards music... movies..books... pure and devoted love for Rumi and Ghalib... it was after a year of our facebook friendship we exchanged our numbers.. I still remember I spoke to her for the first  time on 16th October 2011 after my college... we spoke for almost an hour and it felt like m talking to my mirror... yes that is what she  is  for me... my mirror reflection... we share same love towards our friends.. always there for them.. standing with them through thick and thin... I never thought one day she will be so close to me that I will fly to meet aunty and her kids.. but trust me its an honor to know her... I'm  thankful to god that she and her family are a part of my life...
Aunty has two anmol ratan in her life Beno and Dodo... what to say about  Beno she is sweet, funny and sometimes she is sarcastic so people think before taking panga with  her... but yes if you try to understand her.. she is a gem... an independent woman who doesn't gives a  fuck about the world... and I know one day all her dreams will come true....

Dodo... yes that's what I call her one  helluva girl.. she is the queen of straight face jokes and don't  get on her bad side she can hang you by your balls... A very good photographer who is always ready to learn... I believe one day she will surprise all of  us by becoming a great writer..

Most of the ppl in my circle think that aunty is my new best friend.. but she is beyond that.... she is a true, genuine friend I have, a friend who is just a call away and I don't need to think before calling her at 1am or 2 am or 3 for that matter... Nobody will screw their night to come and pick you from airport at 6am.. she did.. I felt special... I don't remember when was the last time I was so happy... I was not happy when I got my job or my first salary... Nobody will take out time from their busy schedule aunty and her kids did.. They took care of me like a baby..
By the way, she is my Sufi mentor .... jee haan! that's true... whenever its about spirituality  I can always talk to aunty... let it be a silly question or a serious doubt I count on aunty and  I know she has the answer..

I can only say that... sometimes we should count our blessings and learn how blessed we are.. because true happiness comes from these special relations.. which don't come in limelight but they secretly wish good for you... they will not tell you how much they love you but they will make you fall in love with yourself...

Movie Review: Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns

There are some directors who make films which are so good that you need time for those films to sink in..... Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns is one of those.
SBAGR takes the story forward from where the SBAG ended. Each and every character is perfect to represent the Royalty.

Jimmy Shergill who is bound to wheelchair but with his high spirits he grabs 10/10 for his kick ass performance. His emotions are expressed through his eyes and I must say the way he carries royalty and class throughout the film is not easy. His dialogue delivery is amazing and the way he says 'Sarkar ne humaari daulat toh cheen li, par fitrat nahi cheen paaye.'

Irrfan Khan the highest point of this film, the best acting of this year atleast. He will make you laugh and there are scenes where viewers can feel his pain. Irrfan is a perfect Gangster here. His character shows how Rajputs/Thakurs cant give up when it comes to pride. Irrfan is the soul of this film do watch this film for Indrajeet Singh.

Mahie Gill.. the hero of this film who plays slutty-royal-wife. Trust me you cant neglect Mahie the actor or Madhvi the character. At the same time you cant stop admiring her accomplishments with the brain and later you feel sorry for her. This time she is more aggressive, more ambitious and now she can go to any extent to get Aditya Pratap's attention.

Soha Ali Khan she has a small role in the film but she has done justice to her character. Her role gets strong when the story reaches it climax stage.

Must say Tigmanshu Dhulia is the master of  Dialogues, like
'Bahut sasti ho chuki ho tum. Tumhe dene ke liye hamare paas chillar bhi nahin hai.’
‘hamare toh gaaliyon pe bhi taaliyan padti hai.'
'Jung hogi... ghamasan hogi...'
'Hume mard hi kyu milte hai... Shayar kyun nahi milte!'

Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns is a story of Lust, Lies, Royalty, Politics, Pride. There are many twists and turns in the film.. the film is little draged, the climax is excellent but editing is equally bad.  It is not as good as first film but do watch it for its characters and dialogues.

Ohh Womaniyaaa

I strongly believe that the strongest thing in this world is Women. God created a beautiful world and filled it with beautiful people – women. And just to appreciate their power, beauty and grace, He created men. However much a man can try, but he can never match a woman's self control, inner strength and will to move forward. A man has strong bones, but can never look into the eyes of a woman with conviction. There is a reason why she is not physically stronger than man. And the reason is she doesn't need that brute strength. Her one gaze is enough.
If men are physically strong don't forget women are emotionally strong..
And today I would like salute some most beautiful women in my life:

  • Maa: Maata shri... she is my life, my backbone.. Maa always taught me that no matter how sad you are in your life, don't hurt anyone. Thank you maa for giving me full freedom to live my life in my own ways... You just need one person to believe in you and she is that one person... Whenever things go wrong I just need one hug from her and m ready to face the world. Love you Maa. :*

  • Dheera (10-6 = Mam, after 6pm = Maaaate) :D She is my boss.. she is my friend.. she is my helpline number.. my gol - gappe partner.. She is a true inspiration for every girl who believes in her dreams. She taught me that there is nothing wrong or right, its how you look at it..... and things always fall into place end of the day... My day is incomplete without meeting her. PS: You're my pumpkin pumpkin, hello honey bunny *runs and hides* :P :D

  • Farheen Mam: The sexiest October baby... yeah! thats what I call her... My Delhi trip is incomplete without her... One good thing about Farheen mam is that I don't need to think before calling her if she is in town she will take out time and come to GIP Costa coffee :D She is a blessing, a true Rockstar.

  • Shweta: Yo Chaps!! :P Shweta knows me for almost a decade now.. from school to junior college to BMM ... from school  mid terms to board exams.. from board exams to grad semesters. Shweta was always there.. We talk to each other ONLY when one of us is in deep shit and the other person cant do anything about it... :P Thank you Chap for giving friendship a new meaning.... :)

  • Aarzoo Aunty: We hit off as if we know each other since ages.. but the truth is we never met each other.. she is my khurafaati partner, I don't have to say anything to her half of the time we sail in same boat :-P we share the same passion towards music, books, her entire family is close to me and I promise aunty very soon I will fly to Hyderabad just to meet you Beno and Allu. <3 Love you guys.

  • Lastly... I will not name her but she is a dear friend who taught me what Friendship is... Bada wala thankyou for those reality checks and thanks for teaching me what not to do in life... You always told me Rish don't regret these lessons help you to see the bigger picture and move ahead in life.... :)

Thanks to each one of you for making a difference in my life, for motivating me... I salute you all.. :)

Memories... They make us, they break us

Forget it. A phrase which is easy to say but equally difficult when it comes to implementing it. Forgetting something is as difficult as remembering. In these years of my life I realized that we cant control everything and memories are one of them. When we live our life in our style we create memories. Those good times when we smile without worrying about future.... are memories. Those moments when we live our life king size are memories....

But there are some memories which are not welcomed by our thoughts. These are those memories we wish to forget and move on. We don't understand that these are the memories we cherished, these are the memories which are closest to hearts.

Things cant be good all the time... Bad memories always teach us something. These bad memories leave scars but they also teach us what not to do in life. Also sometimes good memories turn into bad ones.
These memories break us because of those good memories we go back to our past and think of what happened, how things changed and these memories have the tendency to break us and sometimes we thrive because of these memories.....

Again, I say forget it and move on...

Delhi.. the city of my Dreams....

"Delhi nurtures you in it's womb of extremities.
You struggle against it till you realize that that's what makes you" via @ThWanderingSoul

Whenever anyone talks about Delhi it takes me back to good old school days, Air Force days.. Even though m away from Delhi for almost 11yrs now but my love for that city is unconditional... Delhi always takes me back into the golden era with panache.

The city that is well known for its weather Extreme hot in Summers and extremely chilly in winters perfect weather to die for. One city where you can enjoy each and every season with warm and loving people and colorful festivals. :)
Delhi, the capital of India, a city of richness, diversity and power. Dilli, as it is fondly called, is indeed the heart of India... but when somebody says Delhi is unsafe, logo ko tameez nahi hai... it hurts :( this is the city that nurtured me and taught me ethics and values... Probably that is the reason inspite of living in Mumbai for almost 11yrs that Delhi touch is still there in my language....
Delhi has come a long way since the old times. After bagging the prestigious title of India’s capital, Delhi has carved a niche for itself. One of India’s fastest growing cities; it illustrates a beautiful example of the past and the present living together. While the Walled City, our very own integral Old Delhi still dazzles in its ancient charm, the New Delhi is an icon of development. State of the art residential complexes, breathtaking shopping complexes, grand skyscrapers, Delhi has several architectural marvels under its belt.

But today when I hear about Rape cases every other day.. It kills me. I feel this is not the Delhi I grew up in this is not the place where my Angels live.. This is not the city that taught me how to live... But thanks to some amazing people in my life like Anu, Farheen mam, Manu, Anuraag, Yatin, Ish, Raka, Akanksshi who taught me that Diversity of the City is evident from the fact that nobody in the city feels to be a misfit! There would be friends of friends, cousins, distant relations or neighbors of someone living in Delhi making it a home away from home! :)

But to be honest from the bottom of my heart I feel Delhi is a beautiful city. A city which is well-known for its hospitality. No wonder, it has been destroyed and rebuilt numerous times . The charming forts of Delhi are its soul, tucked away in timeless peace, serenity and beauty.
As they say..... Dil ki basti purani dilli hai ~ jo bhi gujra hai usne loota hai....

Delhi has always welcomed everyone with an open mind and heart... and it has only one thing to offer... Unconditional Love...

Ek tha TIGER... REALLY?

November 17, 2012 a day that I will never forget.. For the first time in my life I got a chance to see the glimpse of Bombay in Mumbai.... One mans death and the entire city stopped… when alive he could shut down the city after all fear was the key and now when he passed away guess what Emotion is the key.

Yesterday Offices in Mumbai closed down earlier than normal. Many shops in busy areas of the city were shut down. Roads in many parts of the usually bustling financial capital teeming with a sea of humanity were unusually quiet. Medical stores were forced to shut, Multiplexes decided not to screen any movie. Shootings in film city and other studios were stopped. Wondering what brought Maximum City to a halt?

Bal Thackeray started his career as a cartoonist with an English newspaper but later he began Marmik, a Marathi weekly for, by and of the Marathi people. Balasaheb always knew the people were frustrated. He had a knack of feeling the pulse of his people.

For some people Balasaheb was a Superhero, for some he was a terrorist. For some people he united the state and for some he evoked feelings of divide and rule. Viewpoint differs from person to person. What is right and what is wrong even I don’t know bt all I can say is that Bal Thackeray has surely got the power to bring Mumbai a city that never sleeps to a Halt. For most it’s the fear while for others it’s the respect. In the end just one question Respect causes Fear or Fear causes Respect?

May Bal Thackeray’s Soul rest in peace….

Tumhi Ho Bandhu Sakha Tumhi....

Cocktail is been there done that movie types. It is the 21st century version of  Kuch Kuch Hota Hain. Cocktail is all about three friends Gautam (Saif Ali Khan) who is a true womaniser, Veronica (Deepika Padukone) she is intense, wild, maniser (new word ;)) and the third friend is Meera (Diana Penty) she is calm, introvert.
All the three characters go through the following emotions: Love, Lust, Friendship followed by Heartbreak. The strong part of the film is that all the three characters are strong especially it is Deepika's best performance of her career or you can say that Veronica is the man in the film. Saif is the soul of the film who thinks friendship and love are equally important and then there is Diana who is cool but her presence makes a difference in the film.

The dialogues in the film are catchy, straight to the point. Some of my favourite scenes are
When Gautam says, "Tum lonely ho aur main characterless."
Gautam talk to Veronica and Meera together about his feelings towards each of them. “Look. You love me. I love her. Let’s sort this mess out.”

Veronica tells Meera "Gautam se zyada tum zaroori ho."
Veronica to Gautam: "tum mere liye wo ho, jo meera tumhare liye hai."

The music in the film is really good; every situation in the film has a touch of song. Though in the second half of the film all the songs are played in loop some scenes are dragged but we cant forget that the movie reveals its true colors in the second half. The thinking level of the characters is quite practical. Thankfully, Cocktail manages to hit quite a few high notes post-interval too.

On a personal note each and every person living in a metro city who is or was in love, or a person who is really close to their friend will connect to the movie. While watching the movie I missed some very good friends of mine.  I was able to relate myself to some scenes of the movie. So any person who loved and lived their relation will like the movie.

You can’t hate a film like Cocktail nor can you love it in totality.
